MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Jan. 22, 2020) – Kaely Gose picked up her 10th double-double of the season and the Milligan College women's basketball team picked up its fifth straight win, 64-53 over Tennessee Wesleyan University Wednesday night at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Gose led all scorers and rebounders with 21 points and 17 boards, the latter figure one shy of her career high.
Buffs open second half with big run
After a low-scoring first half which saw Milligan trail the whole way and face a 20-19 deficit at the break, the Buffs started the third quarter with a run that would put them in the lead for good. Halie Padgett started the run, which turned into 11 straight Milligan points to open the second half. Gose added an old-fashioned three-point play, and then Bailey Berry and Hannah Wyrick each hit shots from the perimeter to make it 30-20 less than four minutes into the second half.
The run helped Milligan lead by six for the rest of the third quarter, although the Bulldogs cut the lead to three in the fourth. They did so at the free throw line with just over eight minutes to go in the game, but Gose again converted an old-fashioned three-point play to extend the lead back to two possessions. The Buffs led by that many for the rest of the game.
By the numbers
Gose was the first of three Buffs in double figures. Lily Griffith scored 14 and added six rebounds; Padgett scored 12 points with four rebounds. Gose's double-double was her 10th of the season, ranking No. 2 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, and 12th of her career. She added three assists and four blocks.
For Tennessee Wesleyan, 10 players entered the scoring column but none made it to double digits. Carlie Runyan, Kaitlyn Strange and Hannah Cherry all scored eight.
