Kiser leads Buffs in first win
Emily Kiser scored 23 points on 6-for-12 shooting, and the Milligan College women’s basketball team picked up its first win Saturday in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse, defeating Piedmont International University 76-69.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 9, 2019) – Emily Kiser scored 23 points on 6-for-12 shooting, and the Milligan College women's basketball team picked up its first win Saturday in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse, defeating Piedmont International University 76-69.
Kiser was four points shy of her career high and added five rebounds and five assists.
Down to the wire
Milligan and Piedmont International exchanged 19 leads with neither team leading by more than six points until Kiser made a free throw with 30 seconds left for the final point of the game. It finished a 6-0 run for Milligan, which included the last five tallies from the charity stripe. Halie Padgett converted an and-one, Bailey Berry made two, and Kiser made one.
The difference in the game, indeed, came at the free throw line, as Milligan went 25-for-35 (71.4 percent) and Piedmont International went 18-for-27 (66.7 percent). Kiser was one of nine Buffs to score from the foul line, and she went 9-for-11.
Neither team scored a field goal in the last three and a half minutes.
Statistical leaders
Kiser led all scorers with 23 points, while Kaely Gose scored 13 with eight rebounds and two blocks. Padgett followed with eight points, Berry scored seven, and Sydney Breeding, Lily Griffith and Stacia Wilson all scored five.
Five players from Piedmont International reached double figures, including Briana Best who scored a team high 14 points off the bench. Alysia McLeod registered a double-double with 11 points and a game high 13 rebounds.

Milligan hits the road for Alice Lloyd College Monday, Nov. 11, for another nonconference matchup. The Buffs will then stay on the road for two Appalachian Athletic Conference games before returning home Wednesday, Nov. 20, for Montreat College.
