Merritt pitches her way to AAC weekly honor

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (April 12, 2021) – Milligan University junior Cloee-Anna Merritt has been named Appalachian Athletic Conference pitcher of the week after two stellar performances during the week of April 5-11. The AAC league office made the announcement Monday afternoon.
This marks Merritt's first AAC weekly honor and the second straight week Milligan nabbed the award after Erin Forgety won last week. Merritt is the third Buffalo this season to win an AAC weekly award for softball as Katie Cronin won hitter of the week on March 15.
Merritt pitched 13 near shutout innings in two games last week. She allowed only one run, and it was unearned, as she lowered her season earned run average to 1.98, ranking in the top 10 in the league.
Merritt struck out a career high 12 in the final game of last week to bring her season strikeout total to 65 this season. She also won her 10th game (10-1) and entered the top 50 nationally for wins.
Merritt and the Buffs return to action Wednesday for a doubleheader against Tennessee Wesleyan beginning at 5 p.m.
