Layne to be Named to Carter County Sports Hall of Fame in 2025
ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. - On Thursday afternoon, the Carter County Sports Hall of Fame announced their full list of inductees into the 2025 class. One of Milligan's current most decorated coaches, Chris Layne, is one of the 21 inductions.
Layne has been a staple at Milligan since the 1999-2000 schoolyear, when he became the head man of the newly restarted Buffaloes cross country and track & field programs. Since then, he has seen a trio of team national championships in cross country (men's 2021,2023; women's 2021), 17 individual national champions across all three disciplines and 169 NAIA All-American performances.
A date is yet to be announced for the induction banquet, which will also feature Dr. Patricia Bonner (softball coach/administrator) from the former coaching ranks at Milligan. Harry Fine (football), John Hutchins (baseball/basketball), Voni Verran (basketball/track), and Scotty Davis (baseball) also represent the Buffaloes as former athletes at the school.
