Buffs host historic home event Friday
For the first time in its 20-year history, Milligan College cross-country will host a race on campus. The meet, Dual at Buffalo Creek, will pit the Buffaloes against the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan University. Action starts Friday at 6 p.m. with the women’s race followed by the men’s race at 6:30 p.m.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 12, 2019) – For the first time in its 20-year history, Milligan College cross-country will host a race on campus. The meet, Dual at Buffalo Creek, will pit the Buffaloes against the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan University. Action starts Friday at 6 p.m. with the women's race followed by the men's race at 6:30 p.m.
The course is set to run along Buffalo Creek, following the M training loop behind and around Milligan's Anglin Fields. Runners will run on the primarily flat, grassy terrain, looping near the baseball and softball fields before circling the soccer fields several times. The women's course is two miles; the men's course is three miles.
"I think this will mean a lot to both of our teams," Head Coach Chris Layne said. "They're rarely seen by our Milligan community, and it's neat to be doing this in a year where we have the potential to field two very competitive teams. Personally, I really like the dual meet format, especially early in the season. We'll see if this is something we can continue down the road."
With only one race under their belts so far, Milligan's cross-country teams are already off to a great start. The No. 17 women ran away with the Zaxby's Open last week before the No. 15 men also captured the team victory at Tusculum University. Senior Hannah Bell led a select group of Buffs on the women's side while freshman Jake Crow led a select group of Buffs on the men's side. Both earned Appalachian Athletic Conference runner of the week honors for their efforts.
Tennessee Wesleyan's program also is off to a good start this season. The Bulldogs on the women's side finished runners-up at the Berea College/Centre College XC Jamboree last week, led by an individual runner-up by senior Mysteree Bottorff. TWU took third on the men's side, led by junior Antonio Alejos who landed 13th.
Tennessee Wesleyan historically competes near the top of the AAC. Last season, the Bulldogs finished third on the women's side, one spot behind Milligan, and fourth on the men's side, two spots behind Milligan.
