MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 17, 2020) – Sophomore Rasheem Brown of the Milligan College track & field team has been named Appalachian Athletic Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 16, announced the league office Monday afternoon.
Brown was voted the top male track athlete in the conference this week for the first time this season and fifth time in his two-year Milligan career.
Brown, a two-time national champion in the hurdles, ran the 60-meter hurdles three times at the VMI Indoor Classic last weekend and went well under the national A standard each time. In a deep field of NCAA athletes, he took the win in all three rounds and twice ran under his current NAIA national record of 7.81. Brown ran 7.80 in the prelims, 7.79 in the semifinals and went unchallenged in the final to win in 7.86. He also extended his collegiate finals winning streak to 12 races.
Brown's season best in the event came two weeks ago at the Camel City Invitational, where he set the No. 1 mark in the NAIA this season at 7.78. Only one other athlete in the country has run the event in under eight seconds and no one else has run faster than 7.94.
Brown's No. 1 NAIA mark is 0.61 seconds faster than anyone else in the AAC, and he and the rest of the Milligan squad will put their marks on the line against the rest of the AAC when they compete next in the conference championships Thursday-Friday, Feb. 20-21, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After that, Brown and the Buffs will head to the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships Thursday-Saturday, March 5-7, in Brookings, South Dakota.
