Buffs Tennis Squads Drop Non-Conference Matches to Cumberlands
MILLIGAN, Tenn. - On Wednesday, the Milligan University men's and women's tennis teams hosted the University of the Cumberlands Patriots, who are ranked at No. 16 on the men's side and No. 19 on the women's. The two nationally-ranked foes ousted the Buffaloes in 6-1 and 7-0 defeats, respectively, at Mathes Tennis Center.
Men's singles is the lone spot where Milligan picked up a point, as Gonzaga Lafarga scored a 6-0, 6-4 win in the No. 1 singles matchup. The remaining five matches ended in two sets each, in favor of the Patriots.
Ryan Thomas and Michal Curlej teamed up to notch a 6-3 win in the No. 1 doubles tilt, but the No. 2 and No. 3 battles went the way of the visitors, clinching them a 6-1 triumph.
For the women, it was a tough day on the courts, as they were unable to scratch out a single set on the day. Milligan's closest singles effort came from Trinity Fox, who came close in a pair of 6-4 set losses.
Sophie Dunman and Lauren Wimmer fell 6-4 in the No. 1 doubles match, as the top performance by a MU doubles pair on the afternoon.
Milligan now has the University of Pikeville Bears on their schedule for tomorrow afternoon, Mar. 27, at 4 p.m. in Pikeville, Ky. Those AAC tilts will preclude non-conference matchups against Methodist University on Friday at Mathes Tennis Center.
