Milligan Tennis Teams Fall to SCAD Atlanta in AAC Contests
ATLANTA, Ga. – Milligan University's tennis squads headed down to Atlanta, Ga. for a pair of Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) tilts against the SCAD Atlanta Bees on Friday afternoon. Both teams dropped their battles, as the men fell 5-2 and the Buffs women were swept 7-0.
For the men in singles, Martin Mercarder was a winner in the No. 4 match, as he came back after dropping the first set 6-0. He ended up with a 0-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph. Thiago Petry won on points tiebreak after splitting the opening two sets at 5-7, 7-5. He won 10-8 in the points tiebreaker to get the second MU point.
Milligan's men had two losses in doubles at 6-4, while the pairing of Petry and Marcos Moreno were stopped early in a 4-4 tie in the No. 2 doubles matchup.
The women struggled across the board against the Bees, as Tiana Shelton had the strongest MU performance with a 7-5, 2-6, 7-10 loss in a tiebreaker third set. Her matchup was the No. 4 singles battle.
Shelton and Laurel Rich were behind 4-1 in doubles match No. 2 but did not finish, as the Buffs dropped the other two, 6-0.
On Mar. 13, the Buffs squads will head down to the Georgia coast, where they will do battle with Coastal Georgia in a pair of non-conference battles starting at 11:30 a.m. in Brunswick, Ga.
