Men’s Tennis takes down No. 18 Montreat 4-3

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (March 1, 2023) – The Milligan University men's tennis team earned a 4-3 victory over No. 18 Montreat at the Mathes Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.

The Buffs move to 4-6 on the season and 2-2 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) action. Montreat falls to 2-1, 2-1 AAC.

Milligan opened the match by taking the doubles point with wins at second and third doubles. Marcos Moreno and Gabrijel Kajic earned a well-contested 7-6 (10-4) win at second doubles and Justin Rigsby and Juan Camilo Burgos secured a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Buffs took fourth, fifth and sixth singles to grab the ranked AAC win. Moreno worked a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 singles. Ryan Thomas won 6-0, 6-03 at No. 5 singles and Nathan Smiley took a 6-3, 6-1 win at sixth singles to secure the match.

Carter Rigsby and Krishan Teneja both went to three sets but fell at first and second singles.

The Buffs begin their spring break trip in Hilton Head, S.C. on Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. matchup against Missouri Valley.
