Peter Gilber and Hanne te Velthuis named AAC Swimmers of the Week
WALESKA, Ga. (January 22, 2024) – Milligan University swimmers Peter Gilbert and Hanne te Velthuis were announced as the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Swimmers of the Week on Monday afternoon.
WALESKA, Ga. (January 22, 2024) – Milligan University swimmers Peter Gilbert and Hanne te Velthuis were announced as the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Swimmers of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Both swimmers were crowned discipline champions in their respective events on Saturday's triple distance meet between the Buffs and Cumberlands. The triple distance meet format had each swimmer entered into three events of the same stroke and the swimmer with the fastest time across all events was crowned the meet champion in that disciple. Gilbert won the men's distance freestyle flight while te Velthuis was the champion of the women's sprint freestyle trifecta.
Gilbert completed 200-, 500- and 1000-yard freestyles in a combined 16:37.85. He took first place in all three distances and hit the NAIA provisional cuts in the 200 free (1:47.41) and the 500 free (4:51.86).
Te Velthuis topped the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle group with a combined time of 3:16.47. She won each event and hit the NAIA provisional standard in all three. She went 24.32 in the 50 free, 53.66 in the 100 free and 1:58.49 in the 200 free.
Milligan swimming closes its regular season this weekend at Birmingham Southern.
