Caleb Fry and Hanne te Velthuis honored as AAC Swimmers of the Week
WALESKA, Ga. (November 20, 2023) – Milligan University sophomore Caleb Fry and graduate student Hanne te Velthius were honored as the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Swimmers of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
WALESKA, Ga. (November 20, 2023) – Milligan University sophomore Caleb Fry and graduate student Hanne te Velthuis were honored as the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Swimmers of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Fry and te Velthius turned in some of the NAIA's top times at Milligan's midseason meet, the Gamecock Invitational, last week. The Buffs competed against South Carolina, Vanderbilt and NCAA Division II powerhouse Tampa. Following the meet, Milligan's swim teams sit at No. 2 in both Swimcloud NAIA National Championship rankings.
Fry made a pair of championship finals appearances in both breaststroke events. He finished fifth in the 200 breast in 2:00.58 and sixth in the 100 breast (54.86). Fry added a 12th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (20.76).
Fry's times were national provisional qualifiers in all three events. He swam the national No. 1 time in the 200 breast, the No. 2 time in the 100 breast and the No. 7 time in the 50 free.
Te Velthius set a pair of Milligan records in the 50 free (24.14) and the 100 free (52.73). Both were provisional swims and ranked as the third-fastest times in the NAIA in each event this season. She added a provisional swim in the 200 free (1:57.17).
In the NAIA individual power rankings, Fry ranks second on the men's side and te Velthuis ranks No. 10.
Milligan travels to Lenoir Rhyne on Dec. 9.
