Three second half goals lift Buffs to 3-0 win
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (September 24, 2022) – The Milligan University men’s soccer team defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent Montreat College by a score of three to nothing Saturday evening at Anglin Field. The win marked the Buffs’ third consecutive victory over AAC opponents.

Milligan climbs to 3-2-3 (3-1-1 AAC) for the year while Montreat falls to 3-5 (2-3 AAC).
Milligan started the game on the offensive, recording five shots before Montreat registered its first attempt in the 27th minute. Greg Anderson had a near miss in 16th minute and the Cavs' keeper made a pair of point-blank saves on shots by Asa Blake and Anderson in the 24th.
Milligan's pressure resulted in a well-struck attempt from distance by Luke Bennett in the 40th minute, but it sailed wide of the frame.
The teams went into the halftime break scoreless with Milligan owning a 9-2 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in SOG.
Eight minutes into the second half, the Milligan press won possession the offensive third and a cross from Clay Gallant nearly connected with a leaping Bennett at the left post.
Soon after, the Buffs retook possession and Blake found Edward Burgos just outside the six-yard box, he blasted a shot at the keeper and it deflected off the goalie and trickled in for his first goal as a Buff. Milligan led took a 1-0 lead in a 53rd minute.
Bennett cashed in with his fourth goal just five minutes later. Ethan Bishop sent a rolling cross from the deep left corner and Bennett redirected the shot into the lower right corner to give Milligan a 2-0 edge.
Anderson made it a 3-0 game in the 76th minute, pouncing on a rebound for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
The Buffs outshot Montreat 24-4 for the match with 11 shots coming on goal for Milligan compared to just two for the Cavaliers. Milligan also held the advantage in corner kicks 5-3.
Milligan men's soccer is idle next week. The Buffs travel to Truett McConnell on Oct. 5
