MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (May 1, 2020) – Senior Roberto Fernandez Garrido of the Milligan College men's soccer team was named the Milligan College Male Athlete of the Year. The announcement was made Thursday afternoon during the college's award ceremony.
Garrido's award followed up a successful senior season which saw him get selected as a 2019 NAIA All-America honorable mention and be named the Appalachian Athletic Conference player of the year.
Garrido led the nation in scoring with 25 goals in 17 matches. He averaged 1.47 goals per game with seven multiple goal games and four hat tricks. Garrido tallied a career high of five in Milligan's big win over Kentucky Christian University on Oct. 23, an effort that helped him garner NAIA Player of the Week on Oct. 29.
"It is such a privilege to be honored as Milligan's male athlete of the year," Garrido said. "My fellow Buffs have supported me immensely over the past year, and I think this award is better served as a testament to my growth as a person and player. Being a Buff goes beyond the field, and I'm glad I was able to represent the core values Milligan embodies."
