WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 14, 2019) -- Roberto Fernandez Garrido recorded his third multigoal game and second hat trick of the season to help the Milligan College men's soccer team win its first Appalachian Athletic Conference match, 4-2, at Point University Saturday afternoon.
Garrido put the Buffs on top twice, first in the 12th minute to break open the scoring, then again in the 41st minute to make it 2-1 heading into the halftime break. Garrido added his third goal of the match to make it 3-1 before freshman Inaki Moreno gave the Buffs some cushion with his first collegiate goal in the 68th minute.
Harry Griffin was credited the assist on Garrido's first goal, a header that made it 1-0 early in the contest. The goals were Garrido's AAC-leading eighth, ninth and 10th goals of the season.
Milligan outshot Point 17-10 in the contest, including 8-4 on shots on frame. Garrido was perfect in his attempts, scoring goals on all three shots he took. Moreno and Robell Habte followed with two shots on goal apiece.
Up next, Milligan returns home for an AAC match against Union Wednesday, Sept. 18. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. following the women's match.
