ANDERSON, S.C. (January 15, 2023) – The Milligan University men's bowling team returned to action for the first time in the spring 2023 semester at the Southeastern Shootout this weekend.
The Buffs finished sixth in the seven-team event with 7,499 total pins across five individual team games and 16 baker games. Milligan's JV team finished fourth of four teams with 7,212 total pins.
"Our guys really struggled this weekend matching up to the pattern," said head coach Brian Rickert. "We would find a line that would work and then it would transition and we'd just take too long to get back on track."
Cameron Shockey paced the Buffs with a 14th-place individual finish. He knocked down 963 pins (192.6 average) across five games with four of five games over 190.
Caleb McDonald led the Buffs' JV unit and was Milligan's second overall finisher at 934 pins (186.8) with a high game of 231. Jameson Whaley was 24th at 914 pins (182.8 average) with a high of 229. Tristan Crawford placed 24th with 906 pins (181.2 average).
Jackson McRae was 26th at 892 pins (178.4 average) and Xander Stephens was 27th with 890 pins (178 average).
"You could definitely see that we had some rust coming off of winter break," said Rickert. "We've got two weeks of hard work in front of us to get ready for the guys' last tournament of the regular season."
In baker action, the varsity squad totaled 2964 with six games over 200 and a high of 222. The Buffs' JV racked up 2,954 pins with three outings over 200.
Milligan bowling is idle next week before heading to the SCAD Baker Challenge on Jan. 28-29.
