ATLANTA, Ga. (May 12, 2022) – The Milligan University women's flag football team dropped a pair of games in pool play at the NAIA Women's Flag Finals at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the Home Depot Backyard in Atlanta.
Milligan fell to top-ranked Thomas 74-0 in the invitational opener and then fell 46-0 to Kansas Wesleyan in the second game of pool play.
Thomas used several interceptions and an offense rife with speed and laterals to jump out to a 20-0 lead after the first quarter.
Milligan's was limited to just one first down until the Buffs' final drive of the first half. On the Buffs' final drive, Tianna Stamas picked up a first down just beyond the Milligan 20 before Brooke Housley connected with Liz Burns for a nearly 40-yard pickup with 11 seconds remaining in the first half. Three pass attempts fell incomplete as time ran out on the drive with Thomas leading 46-0 at the break.
The second half was all Night Hawks as the Sun Conference champs rolled to the opening-game victory.
In the second game of the day, Milligan squared off with Kansas Wesleyan. The Coyotes jumped out to a 39-0 lead at the half.
A successful double pass keyed a Buffs drive deep into Coyotes territory in the second half, but a pass attempt into the end zone inside the KWU 20 resulted in an interception to end the possession.
The Buffs will compete in the Silver Bracket in bracket play at the NAIA Women's Flag Finals tomorrow.
