Milligan Cycling looking strong in second race weekend
The Milligan College cycling team traveled to Auburn, Alabama this past weekend Feb. 15-16, to compete in their second Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference road race of the season.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Feb. 19, 2020) – The Milligan College cycling team traveled to Auburn, Alabama, this past weekend Feb. 15-16, to compete in their second Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference road race of the season.
For the women's A squad, Madeline Bemis won the road race after a solo attack early in the race and Gracie Pendleton finished in second after a lead out from the team. In the Men's A, Keith Mullaly finished in third with Jonah Sanchez sprinting to fifth in the road race. In the women's B, Marjie Bemis outsprinted the group to win and Alyssa Barrick followed closely finishing in fourth.
Both the men and women's time trial teams ran strong times and won in their races. The men's team was represented by Isaac Bryant, Ruben Bacon, Bobby Comfort and Mullaly while the women were represented by Mad. Bemis, Manuela Escobar, Pendleton and Mar. Bemis. In the women's A, individual time trial Helen Mitchell won the event with Meade Plum in third and Laney Butt in fourth and in the men's A, Osias Lozano placed fifth. In the women's B, A. Barrick placed second and Hayley Barrick third with Genevieve Plum in fifth while in the men's C Whit McDonald finished first.
In the criterium, Mad. Bemis secured the win with Pendleton coming in second, in the men's A, Bryant secured fifth in the final lap of the race. In the Women's B, Mar. Bemis came second with H. Barrick in fourth.
The cycling team opened up their road SECCC season Feb. 1-2, at the Swamp Classic in Gainesville, Fl. Mad. Bemis, Pendleton and Escobar were able to secure second, third and fourth place respectively, in both the road race and criterium events. On the men's side of the road race Sanchez came in second place while Bacon placed third.
Up next, the team travels to Raleigh, N.C., Saturday, Feb. 29, and Sunday, Mar. 1, to compete in another road event hosted by N.C. State.
