MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 20, 2018) – Milligan College has hired Chelsea Woodacre to serve as spirit coordinator and to lead the cheer and dance teams. Woodacre formerly served as cheer head coach at Science Hill High School and cheer assistant coach at East Tennessee State University.
"We are excited to add Chelsea to our spirit program," Milligan Vice President for Athletics Mark Fox said. "Her experience at the collegiate and high school levels will be a tremendous asset to our athletic programs and college."
Woodacre, a native of Johnson City, has spent the last few years working in the area serving in various capacities. Woodacre has assisted local high school cheer and dance programs, provided consultation for practices and judged tryouts.
Woodacre served as head coach for the cheer team at Science Hill High School from 2010 to 2015 and as assistant coach under Tammy Bartow for the cheer team at ETSU from 2010 to 2011.
"I am honored to be given the opportunity as the new head cheerleading and dance coach at Milligan College," Woodacre said. "While the spirit program at Milligan already has a solid foundation, I am eager to take it to the next level and also to serve as a mentor to these ladies on and off the court."
Woodacre graduated from ETSU in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and a minor in coaching and physical education. While a student at ETSU, Woodacre was a member of the cheer team and served as a team captain in her junior and senior seasons. She was also a member of Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA).
Chelsea married Aaron Woodacre in 2013, and the couple has one son, Troy (2016). They reside in Johnson City and are members of Grace Fellowship Church.
Woodacre follows former Milligan spirit coordinator Ronda Paulson, who served in this role from 2005 to 2018. Paulson has moved on to focus full time attention on her family's company Isaiah 117 House, which assists with the transition of children moving into foster care.
"We appreciate all of coach Paulson's efforts in starting up our program and developing it to where it is today," Fox said. "Her spirit and love for Milligan will be missed. We wish her and her husband all the best in their new adventure."
