MILLIGAN, Tenn. (April 7, 2024) - Milligan University baseball used a pair of three-run innings to propel it to an 8-4 win in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series finale over visiting Bluefield University (Va.) on Sunday.
Unfortunately, the Rams claimed the series win after sweeping the doubleheader on Saturday.
The win improves the Buffs to 23-14 overall and 12-9 in the AAC.
Angel Lobo gave Milligan the early advantage with a two-run double in the third. However, the lead was short-lived as Bluefield pushed three runs across in the fourth to grab a 3-2 lead.
The Buffs bounced back with a three-run fifth to seize the lead for good. Caleb Berry reached on an error to allow two runs to cross the plate. Lobo later singled in Berry to make it a 5-3 contest. The good times continued to roll in the seventh as Milligan tacked on three more runs for an 8-3 cushion.
Bluefield scratched out a run in the top of the eighth, but it was too little, too late as Milligan collected the 8-4 victory.
Lobo finished 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Jacob Poe picked up the win, tossing four innings in relief, allowing one earned run on two hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
Milligan returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts WVU Tech for a single, nine-inning game at 3 p.m.
