2014 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE | RYAN STARR
Ryan Starr graduated magna cum laude from Milligan in 2003, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Bible and history. Following Milligan, Ryan went on to earn a graduate degree at Duke Divinity School. While excelling as a student, Ryan also excelled as an athlete.
As Milligan's first cross-country and track recruit in the modern era, he was instrumental in putting Milligan cross-country back on the map. He qualified for 10 national championships in every distance from 3000 meters to the marathon, and held school records in 3k, 5k, half-marathon and 8k distances. Ryan boasted a 5k PR of 15:15 and 8k of 26:01 while at Milligan, and he was named to three consecutive Academic All-America honors. After Milligan, Ryan continued his running career at Duke with a top-10 ACC finish in the 5000- (15:06) and 10,000-meters (30:51). Ryan returned after graduate school to coach at Milligan with Chris Layne for the next four years.
While coaching at Milligan, Ryan also served as minister at Airport Christian Church in Blountville, Tennessee. In January 2013, he was installed as senior minister at Kingsway Christian Church in Germantown, Tennessee.
Please join me in recognizing Ryan Starr as a 2014 inductee into the Milligan College Athletics Hall of Fame.
