2003 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE | KELLY MCKINNIS MCCARTNEY
Kelly McKinnis McCartney, class of 1992, played three sports during her time at Milligan: basketball, softball and volleyball. In softball, she was a two time All-TVAC player in 1991 and 1992. Her batting average was .382, while her overall percentage was .500. Kelly maintained a high fielding percentage with .961. In 1992 she helped lead her team to becoming the TVAC conference champions with a record of 43-11. They also were the NAIA District 24 Champions, NAIA Bi-District 13 Champions, and went on to the NAIA National Tournament, the college's first appearance at any national tournament.
Kelly’s accomplishments carried over into volleyball as well. She was All-Conference during all four years at Milligan, and a conference scholar athlete during 1990 and 1991, as well as an Academic All-American in 1991. During her time on the volleyball team she also was an NCCAA All-American as a freshman, was a member of the All-National tournament team and the NCCAA All-District Tournament Team, and accomplished All-District for NAIA and NCCAA.
During her freshman year, Kelly held the record for season aces with 108, and aces per game at 1.03. Between 1988 and 1991, she held the records for career aces per game at .643, and career digs with 1,400. Out of the top ten volleyball careers between 1988 and 1991, she held the record for digs with 1,400, aces with 265, and aces per game with a percentage of .643. She is also in the top ten for those years in kills, hitting percentage, blocks, service percentage, digs per game, and kills per game.
After graduating from Milligan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, Kelly received a Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1994. She then began her career as a physical therapist at Community Hospital of Anderson in an outpatient orthopedic facility. She has been working in orthopedics since that time.
Kelly met her husband, Tim, in 1994 at East 91st Street Christian Church in Indianapolis, and they were married in 1996. She worked full-time until the birth of their first child, Mason, in November 2000. She now works two days a week and spends the rest of her time with her son.
Tim and Kelly have attended Prairie View Christian Church in Fishers, Indiana, since they were married and are involved in various church activities. Kelly plays keyboard in the worship band and leads the Singers ministry. She is also involved in other ministries including serving communion, cleaning the church facility, preparing meals for new mothers, and participating in a local Mom's group. Kelly also participates in a weekly women's Bible study.
Kelly still enjoys sports, but she is not currently playing on any teams. She stays active, though, by working out at the local YMCA. Her hobbies include playing the piano, exercising, church activities, playing with Mason, and watching sports on television, especially Purdue University football and basketball.
Milligan is pleased to induct Kelly McKinnis McCartney into the Athletics Hall of Fame.
