1999 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE | EUGENE WOODBY
Milligan College proudly inducts Mr. Eugene Woodby into the Athletics Hall of Fame. Mr. Woodby attended Milligan from January 1963 to August 1965, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. Mr. Woodby also received a Master of Science degree in chemistry from Illinois State University and an MBA from the University of Illinois at Champaign.
During his tenure at Milligan, Mr. Woodby was an outstanding runner. He was a four-year letterman in track, and three-year letterman in cross country. Mr. Woodby was a champion and record holder in both sports, and is the current record holder for the mile and two-mile.
Mr. Woodby met his wife of 34 years, Janet Woodby, here at Milligan while they were both students. They have two children, Mary and Eugene Jr., and five grandchildren.
Mr. Woodby worked as a chemistry teacher and assistant track coach with the Bristol Virginia Public School System from 1965 to 1967. From there, he was employed as a principal at Clayton Elementary School in Camp Point, Illinois. In 1968, Mr. Woodby began working for A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company, where he held various supervising and management positions. Mr. Woodby remained with A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company until 1991. Mr. Woodby is currently the plant manager at Great Lakes Chemical Corporation. He is responsible for the operation of fifteen production units including plant utilities, waste disposal, maintenance and engineering.
It is my honor to congratulate you on your many achievements, Mr. Woodby, and to welcome you as one of the newest members of the Milligan College Athletics Hall of Fame.
