After strong finishes from the men’s and women’s cross-country teams at the NAIA national championships, the Milligan College Athletic Department earned the No. 9 ranking in the NAIA Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup fall standings.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Dec. 5, 2019) – After strong finishes from the men's and women's cross-country teams at the NAIA national championships, the Milligan College Athletic Department earned the No. 9 ranking in the NAIA Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup fall standings.
The Buffaloes accumulated 132 points from the cross-country team's efforts this fall season. The cross-country teams were among the top teams in the Appalachian Athletic Conference in the fall rankings. Milligan currently sits 10 points outside of the top five and 47 points ahead of the next closest AAC member.
Women's cross country led the way with 70.5 points thanks to an eighth place finish at the NAIA cross country national championship back in November, while the men's team followed with 61.5 points behind a 14th place finish at the national championship.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.
Similar to the Appalachian Athletic Conference's Duard Walker All Sports Trophy, the Learfield Cup awards points based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports in the NAIA-- six women's and six men's.
The final fall rankings will be announced Dec. 12 once volleyball and men's and women's soccer seasons complete their national championships.
